Placement Test

On the first day of school, students take a placement test to determine their level of English. The test examines their proficiency of the language and ensures that each child is placed in a class with other international students of similar ability. This allows them the best opportunity to learn effectively and improve their English at a pace they are comfortable with.

Active Learning

Our teachers use a variety of methods to engage students in our bright and spacious classrooms. As well as textbooks, students improve their English through group work and class activities. Individual attention is given to each child in order to assess and cultivate their individual needs.

English Language Levels

We follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The five levels are:

A1: Beginner – The basic ability to communicate in a simple way.

Example: Can ask simple questions about a menu and understand simple answers.

A2: Elementary- The ability to deal with simple, straightforward information and begin to express oneself in familiary contexts.

Example: Can take part in a routine conversation on simple topics like the weather.

B1: Pre-intermediate to Intermediate- The ability to express oneself in a limited way in familiar situations and deal in general with non-routine information.

Example: Can ask to open a bank account provided the procedure is straightforward.

B2: Intermediate to Upper Intermediate- The capacity to achieve most goals and express oneself on a range of topics.

Example: Can show visitors around and give a detailed description of a place.

C1: Upper Intermediate to Advanced-The ability to deal with material which is academically or cognitively demanding and use language to a good effect which may in certain respects be more advanced than that of an average native speaker.

Example: Can scan texts for relevant information and grasp the main topic, reading almost as quickly as a native speaker.

*If students are interested in taking external exams such as the IELTS exam or Cambridge exams these can be organised on request at an added cost. IEC Campus is a Trinity Exam Centre approved centre thus Trinity exams can be organised.
